Unveiled in 2019, NACUBO developed a checklist for campus business officers to evaluate their overall sustainability success.
This checklist is ideal for individuals looking to begin conversations about progress on environmental sustainability at their campus. From endowments to facilities and fleets, the business office is an integral part of higher education sustainability practices and performance.
Others may already be participating in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS), a self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainability. Many of the benchmarks are indicators of business office achievement. The STARS program is open to all institutions of higher education, and the criteria that determine a STARS rating are transparent and accessible to anyone.
