Sally Grans Korsch and Neil Gavigan showcase sustainability success stories.

NACUBO showcased institutional success stories at the 2019 Congressional Clean Energy Expo and Policy Forum in July. The all-day event was devoted to the latest in energy efficiency technologies and practices and included presentations from trade groups and business, speeches from members of Congress, and booths from nearly 40 exhibitors.

For the fourth time in five years, NACUBO displayed campus efficiencies posters repurposed from NACUBO annual meetings and shared dozens of institutional success stories via a handout. Sally Grans-Korsh, senior advisor, facilities management and environmental policy, and Neil Gavigan, federal affairs manager, spoke with congressional staffers and others about the relationship between campus and community, operational savings through resource efficiency, and the role federal policy plays in incentivizing sustainability and efficiency.

Primarily, NACUBO representatives spoke on importance of extending and expanding the 179D Commercial Buildings Energy Efficiency Tax Deduction. 179D expired at the end of 2017 and has been considered for extension by members in both the House and Senate. At the time of its expiration, the deduction was not directly applicable to nonprofit institutions.

More information about the program is available online, as are videos of statements by members of Congress and policy forum presentations.
